Rep. Nick LaLota delivers remarks about the importance of Stony Brook’s research and education on the floor of the US House of Representatives.

In a recent address on the floor of the US House of Representatives, Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-1) made a powerful statement about the vital role of federal investments in research and education in securing America’s leadership in global innovation and progress, highlighting the essential work of Stony Brook University.

His remarks come during a pivotal time as the US competes to maintain technological leadership and win the global innovation race. Rep. LaLota underscored the necessity of “strong investments in research and education,” and noted that Stony Brook provides “a prime example of the extraordinary advancements that come from such support.” The congressman also stated, “Stony Brook’s role as a quantum internet testbed and its status as a hub of transformative research demonstrates the immense potential of continued federal investments in higher education.”

Following the republican congressman’s remarks, national higher education and research associations, including the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), thanked Rep. LaLota on social media for highlighting the critical importance of federally sponsored university research and education to maintaining US leadership in innovation.
