Stony Brook Vascular’s Kristan Probeck Named Nurse Practitioner of the Year
Kristan Probeck, from Stony Brook Surgery’s Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, has been named Nurse Practitioner (NP) of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island (NPALI). The Nurse Practitioner Association has seven regions across the state of New York (Long Island is Region 7); Probeck is the NP of the Year for Region 7, which consists of about 800 members across Long Island.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award and grateful to the committee and the NPALI,” said Probeck. “This award inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in the nurse practitioner field. I share this honor with my colleagues, mentors and patients who inspire me every day. I am motivated by this award to continue advocating for Nurse Practitioners and patients and continuing to improve healthcare outcomes.”
Probeck began her healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant, progressing through licensed practical nurse certification and then earning registered nurse credentials in 2003. In 2010, she earned her adult nurse practitioner degree and joined Stony Brook Surgery’s vascular division in 2013 as a venous thromboembolism (VTE) nurse practitioner.
In this role, she is dedicated to ensuring appropriate preventive care and treatment, patient-focused research for safety and quality improvement, and has helped develop the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team at Stony Brook. A recognized expert in her field, Probeck has spoken about VTE standards and research at national conferences, authored peer-reviewed journal articles, and presented award-winning posters at vascular conferences.
Probeck will receive the 2025 Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award at a celebratory dinner in September.
